Workshop Descriptions:

Sat Nov. 8th 10am-3pm:
Deviant Innocence: The Juicy Side of Layering Techniques

Even angels can pack a punch….! Soft, subtle and powerful layering techniques for moments of deviant innocence! Focusing on movements that build like a slow burn, this workshop will focus on challenging yet inspiring technical applications that lead to juicy and rich physical expressions of any genre of music. We will bring down the tempo, yet play with a range of technical complexity that can be utilized to increase a dancer's physical dynamics. Movement combinations and sequences will be worked on that will be able to be adapted to your own personal style to add more options of depth to your artistic resources. The techniques will be presented in a progressive fashion to offer opportunities for multi-leveled layering choices. We will begin with single techniques and progress to the execution of multiple techniques concurrently. Then, we will apply the concepts and work with varying timing and movement choices to create personalized rhythmic/melodic physical interpretations of music and personal expression.

Sunday Nov. 9th 10am-3pm:
Controlled Chaos: From Staccato Technique to Artistic Freedom

The freedom of chaos with the control of technical ability….. The focus of this workshop will be on increasing the precision and speed of techniques, building stamina and cultivating methods of developing personal artistic freedom through the initial focus on technical discipline. Sharp and defined layering techniques will also be incorporated to push the limits of physical expression.

**Please have finger cymbals handy at both workshops.
